Mike Lyons is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT). Mike earned his Master of Arts degree from Regis University’s Clinical and Counseling Psychology program in 2010 and his Bachelor of Arts degree from Colorado State University in 2002, majoring in Liberal Arts. Mike is trained to treat OCD using Exposure and Response Prevention, through training at the Modern Therapist Training Collective and under direct supervision from Carla D’Agostino-Vigil, Clinical Director at Ignite. Mike is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) trained.
Mike’s areas of expertise include treating substance use disorders and misuse while also addressing underlying co-occurring mental health disorders that either stem from or exacerbate substance use/misuse. Mike also specializes in treating intimacy disorders, pornography addiction and sex/love addiction. Prior to joining the team at Ignite, Mike spent over a decade working in residential treatment settings in various clinical and managerial roles.
Mike is passionate about helping others and honors the therapeutic alliance by utilizing a client-centered approach that emphasizes trust, authenticity, the value of vulnerability and prioritizing curiosity over judgment. His work infuses Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) techniques, Motivational Interviewing, strengths-based and solution- focused strategies. Mike incorporates experiential interventions to help move those he works with from head to heart, all while collaboratively working to identify and unravel maladaptive core beliefs, in order to best help his clients connect with who it is they want to become and build a foundation to move forward.
In his spare time, Mike can be found outside hiking, snowboarding or camping with his wife and children. Mike is a firm believer in the healing power of nature and is a native to Colorado.
