Understanding Substance Use and Finding the Right Level of Care

Substance use doesn’t always look like it does in the media. It can be subtle, situational, or something you’ve been managing quietly until it starts to affect your well-being.

At Ignite Counseling Colorado, we know how hard it can be to reach out, especially when you’re unsure what level of care you need. That’s why we created this guide to help you explore your options without pressure, shame, or judgment. We believe in empowering you with clear information to find the path that feels right for you.

What Are the Levels of Care?

Not every situation calls for inpatient treatment, and not every issue can be handled by once-a-week therapy. Here’s a quick overview of common care levels to help you understand the options:

Detox or Withdrawal Management:

  • This is the appropriate level of care for safely stopping substance use when medical symptoms are present and require supervision.

Residential/Inpatient Treatment:

  • This offers 24/7 care for individuals who need stabilization and a highly structured environment to focus on recovery.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP):

  • PHP involves intensive therapy during the day, allowing the individual to return home in the evenings.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP):

  • This program provides therapy 3–5 days per week, which allows you to maintain your daily life and responsibilities while receiving consistent support.

Outpatient Therapy (That's Us):

  • At Ignite Counseling, we specialize in outpatient therapy. This typically involves weekly or biweekly sessions and is ideal for those with mild to moderate support needs.

Self-Assessment: Is Outpatient Therapy Right for You?

This quick self-check is designed to help you reflect on your needs. There’s no scoring and it’s not a diagnosis, just a helpful starting point for your consideration.
