Youth and Family Therapy Center in Westminster, CO

Childhood and adolescence are times of rapid growth and unique vulnerability. At Ignite Counseling Colorado, we support youth ages 6–17 who are navigating anxiety, OCD, trauma, and everyday stress. We build trust through curiosity and respect, helping children manage intrusive thoughts, strong emotions, and school challenges. Together, we develop practical skills, build self-awareness, and strengthen resilience to help them thrive.

A Program Built for Youth and Families

At Ignite Counseling Colorado, we understand that children and adolescents are not just small adults. Their brains are developing, their language for emotions is still forming, and their clinical needs are unique. This is why we have launched a second office dedicated to our Youth and Family Services program in Suite 250 at our Westminster office.

Our Youth and Family Services is a full clinical program built from the ground up. Led by our Associate Clinical Director, Robert Flowers, the program features a specialized team of clinicians who have dedicated their careers to child and teen mental health.

We believe in the power of in-person child therapy. While telehealth has its place, we find that for children ages 6 to 17, being in a physical, child-friendly environment helps build safety and trust.

Common Signs Your Child May Be Struggling

It can be difficult to know when a child’s behavior is a phase and when it is a sign that they need professional support. You know your child better than anyone. If you feel like something is not right, trust your intuition.

Struggling Youth

At Ignite, we work with parents who notice their children experiencing:

  • Persistent Anxiety: Constant worry or fear that keeps them from enjoying school, hobbies, or friendships.
  • Signs of OCD: Repetitive behaviors or intrusive, upsetting thoughts that they cannot seem to shake.
  • Emotional Dysregulation: Frequent meltdowns, intense outbursts, or a sudden inability to manage anger or sadness.
  • Trauma Responses: Behavioral changes after a difficult life event, including nightmares, being easily startled, or avoiding certain places.
  • Social Withdrawal: Pulling away from friends, family, or activities they used to love.
  • School Struggles: School refusal, a sharp decline in grades, or constant trouble with peers.

Our Specialized Services for Children, Teens, and Families

We offer a range of evidence-based treatments specifically customized for the developmental needs of youth. Our approach is never one size fits all. We match the modality to your child’s personality and clinical needs.

Individual Therapy for Children and Teens

One-on-one therapy sessions are personalized to your child’s developmental stage. For younger children, from what it does for teens. The therapist builds a trusting relationship first and then works toward therapeutic goals collaboratively with the child.

Play Therapy

Play therapy is an evidence-based approach for younger children, typically ages 6 to 12, who may not yet have the vocabulary to express what they are experiencing through talk therapy. Through guided, purposeful play, children communicate, process, and heal in ways that feel natural to them. This is a structured clinical approach designed to help children resolve internal conflicts.

ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention) for Children and Teens

ERP is the gold standard, evidence-based treatment for OCD in children and teens. Ignite’s clinicians are specially trained in pediatric ERP. This is not a generic anxiety approach. Children are guided through gradual, structured exposures in a safe and supportive environment to help them reclaim their lives from OCD.

Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)

TF-CBT is a proven, structured approach specifically designed for children and adolescents who have experienced trauma. It involves both the child and a supportive caregiver. The therapy helps children process traumatic memories, develop coping skills, and rebuild a sense of safety and trust.

Youth Therapy Support Groups in Westminster (Coming Soon)

Healing does not have to happen in isolation. Group therapy provides a powerful way for young people to realize they are not alone.

Led by our Group Specialist, Lezah Winick, these groups will offer a soft launch featuring shorter psychoeducation and skills-building formats. These groups are specifically for youth dealing with:

  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Trauma and PTSD

In-person group work allows children and teens to build social confidence while practicing the skills they learn in individual sessions.
