Life Transitions
Truth be told, our lives are always in transition. Nothing ever stays the same. However, when major life changes occur, or they happen unexpectedly, or several transitions all at once, you may need some help coping. We applaud you for turning to therapy as a healthy and life-affirming support system.
Types of Life Transitions
Some life transitions are to be expected and bring a mixed bag of both positive and challenging aspects. These include significant life events such as career changes, adopting a child, or moving to a new place. Other life changes are unexpected and can be painful, like losing a child or loved one, or ending an important relationship.
Here is an example of the life changes that we can support you through:
- Adoption
- Blended families
- Career changes
- Miscarriage and infant loss
- Divorce/separation
- Navigating life during the pandemic
- Grief and Loss
- Interpersonal relationships
- Marriage
- Relocation
- Retirement

How It Feels to Be Stuck in a Transition
Change can be deeply disorienting. It’s common to experience a range of confusing and difficult emotions. You may be struggling with:
- Feeling anxious, lost, or uncertain about the future.
- A sense of having lost your identity or purpose.
- Difficulty making decisions or feeling “paralyzed.”
- Grief over the life you had before the change.
- Feeling isolated or that no one understands what you’re going through.
- Increased irritability, stress, or changes in your sleep patterns.
How Therapy Helps You Find Your Footing
All major transitions mean that “life as we know it” will never be the same. It’s only natural to resist this change, but resistance rarely solves the problem and only increases feelings of fear, doubt and insecurity.
This is where therapy can help you navigate these changes, process your experiences, and regain your footing. Let us walk with you in your journey.
How Ignite Helps You Regain Control
Change is hard, but it’s also an opportunity. Our approach is designed to help you not just get through this transition, but to emerge from it with a stronger sense of self.
- Clarify Your Values: We use approaches like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help you connect with what truly matters to you. This becomes your compass for making decisions that feel right and give you a renewed sense of purpose.
- Process the Grief: Every transition involves loss, even good ones. We provide a safe space to grieve what’s been left behind, so you can fully embrace what’s next without the weight of the past holding you back.
- Rewrite Your Story: We help you integrate this change into your life’s narrative in a way that feels empowering, turning a period of uncertainty into a chapter of intentional growth.
